So first the line was 20 deep by the time we got to the counter and we beat most of his flight and the flight that landed at the same time leaving my sister to help my mother and get the luggage. My father reserved the car through Costco and he didn't join the Budget Fastbreak program because he figured his days of lots of rentals are over (he is 88). My parents came over while I was staying there with my DW and my father wanted to add me as an additional driver on his so I met him at LIH and we rode the bus over to the counter. I had a negative experience with Budget on Kauai this month. We can't tell you how many angry posts we get here from people who felt they were deceived in some way yet it was right there in the contract. Lastly, read that contract and especially those little boxes that you're initialing. In other words, look and act like you know what the deal is and be able to confidently say no. Know what you need, what you don't need and have that driver's license and credit card ready. If you do have to go to the counter know in advance how you're covered for insurance so you can immediately nip that bud when they start pressuring you. Join the rental companies club (they also have them) which usually entitles you to a faster check in and with some you don't even need to go up to the counter. Reviews are always skewed because most people don't write reviews unless they're upset. People have just spent hours and hours sitting on cramped planes and are tired and not in the mood for the lines ,and attempts to upsell by the counter person ( all companies do that so one is no better than the others). If you're flying in from HNL early afternoon there will be lines at all of the car rental operations. So much of it comes down to how busy it is at the time you land, who is behind the counter. We've gotten negative feedback about all of them. You're going to read bad reviews about all of them. In fact i'd choose it over Alamo if the prices were the same but for me Alamo seems to be cheaper more times than not.
